Sam Bird 2nd Dan

Sam began training in 1992 when he was invited to join a local karate class by a friend. Little did he know that this foray into the world of martial arts would kindle a firm friendship and mentorship with his Sensei Archie Grassom 5th Dan, who remains his instructor to date.

Having found one of the top instructors in the country, Sam, quickly honed his skills within karate; swiftly progressing through the grading system and achieving his Shodan (black belt) in 1999.

Sam’s natural aptitude and flare for competition fighting (kumite) enabled him to be selected to train with the Kimura Shukokai Great Britain’s Squad in 1998 in which he represented his country until 2002. During that time he had the privilege of competing within one of the most successful teams within the federation to date; gaining gold, silver and bronze medals in numerous European events.

Sam has been fortunate enough to train with many highly respected martial artists these include: Sensei Tommy Morris 7th Dan Chief Instructor of Kobe Osaka, Sensei Steven Morris 5th Dan, Sensei Alister MacAlister 5th Dan head of Satori Martial Arts Schools, Shihan Eddie Daniels 8th Dan, head of the SKF, together with Shihan Chris Thompson, Lionel Marinus, Bill Bressaw (world chief instructors KSI) & most recently with Sensei Greg Francis 5th assistant coach of the all style karate England team.

Sam continues to train and compete in major competitions and hopes to represent his country at International All styles level in the near future as well as continuing to teach and educate the next generation of martial artists in the techniques of Shukokai.
